Omaha Poker is similar to both Omaha Hi-Lo Poker and Texas Hold'em Poker at 32Red Poker Room. Players must create the best five-card hand combination from a total of nine cards. The nine cards are made up of four pocket cards and five community cards. This results in stronger hand combinations.

Omaha plays as follows...

The Players to the left of the Dealer begin the game by posting blind bets.
The Player on the Dealer's left posts a small blind bet, and the Player on the Small Blind's left posts a big blind bet.

Note: The Dealer's position at the table changes after every game. The dealer-button shows the Dealer's position at the table.

Four pocket cards are dealt to each Player.
In the first round, the Player to the Big Blind's left plays first and can either Fold,
Bet or Raise. (Note: In the first round, betting is capped at one bet and three raises per Player).
In the second round, three community cards are dealt. This is called the Flop. A round of betting follows and Players can either Check, Fold, Call or Raise.
In the third round, a fourth community card is dealt. This is called the Turn. Another round of betting follows.
In the fourth round a fifth and final community card is dealt. This is called the River Card. The final round of betting follows. The remaining Players then use two of their pocket cards and three of the community cards to create the best five-card high hand possible.

Important: Winning hands must consist of two pocket cards and three community cards.

The History of Poker

The origins of gambling's greatest card game remains unknown. There are as many theories and schools of thought as there are variations of poker itself - here is 32Red Poker's brief overview.

The German "Pochspiel", Indian "Ganjifa", Persian "As Nas", English "Bragg" and French "Poque" are all sighted by different theories as the origin of the modern game. Most poker historians do agree however that over a thousand years ago the seeds of the game immerged in China with a game based on "domino cards". Indeed, there are historical records of the Chinese Emperor Mu-Tsung playing domino cards with his wife on New Years Eve 969 A.D.

From 1000 A.D onwards, the trail becomes unclear. Historians believe that during the Middle Ages the game migrated from the Far East to the West via the Empire of Mameluke, who ruled the Middle East. The trail again becomes cold until around the 1600's when the early French settlers of New Orleans brought the bluffing and betting of Poque to the shores of America. It is here, in New Orleans, that Persian sailors taught the French the game of As Nas which used decks of 25 cards comprising 5 suits.

Most likely, these two games meshed together to make the 20 card "cheaters game" which spread up the Missisippi and the rivers of Ohio on the steam boats, up east via the railroads and west by the trade wagons. As time went buy the game changed from 20 cards to 32 and at some point between 1834 and 1837 American card players adopted the "French Pack" of 52 cards as standard.

Poker and its variations spread like wildfire throughout the US and became a cultural icon of the "Wild West" where every saloon worth its saw dust would have a card table. Likewise, the American Civil War saw a virtual explosion in the nation's interest in poker with tens of thousands of soldiers hauled up playing cards in their barracks. At this time the game evolved with the introduction of stud poker, the draw and the straight. By the late 1900's poker was America's most popular card game and by the early 20th century, draw poker had risen to prominence as the nations favourite. By now, what we recognise as the poker hands were established and central to the game.

Despite its existence throughout 400 years of American history, poker remained illegal and did not become a part of mainstream society until the legendary Benny Binion created the inaugural World Series of Poker, won by Johnny Moss in 1970. The World Series of Poker has evolved to become the world's premier poker tournament, televised around the globe and was instrumental in turning poker into the celebrity, main stream, prize money driven phenomenon we see today. FORMAN, N.D. — Orville Erickson could hardly believe it but his wife, Dorothea, says she "just had a feeling" it might be a lucky weekend. Orville Erickson hit a $2.98 million jackpot on a nickel slot machine Saturday at the Dakota Magic Casino near Hankinson. Slots manager Darrell Mireau said it was the largest jackpot in the casino's 11-year history. "I still can't hardly believe it," Orville Erickson, 63, said Monday from the couple's farm a mile north of Forman.

Erickson and a friend were in Fargo on Saturday to get material to build a new ice fishing house when he got the call from his wife, who had returned from a family gathering in New Rockford.I had actually been to a casino there at Devils Lake," she said, "and I was home about an hour, and I thought, 'Gee, we should go to Hankinson tonight.' And then I thought, 'Well, that's kind of dumb, I was just at a casino' But I just had a feeling." Her husband said he was feeling lucky, too.

'No whistles'
He said he usually puts $20 into the Marilyn Monroe MegaJackpot machine, a 75-nickel progressive slot machine with a starting jackpot of $400,000. Saturday, he stuck a $100 bill in the machine, planning to play $20 whether he won or lost, he said. The machine paid out about $75 before he pushed the button around 11:30 p.m. and the "Diamond Cinema Jackpot" symbols aligned, he said. "I was just playing along, and all of a sudden it went black and said 'hand-played jackpot,' " he said. "It was just dead quiet, no whistles or anything. "I stood up and said, 'No way, I don't believe this."'

Dorothea Erickson, 58, was about six machines away when an acquaintance told her she'd better talk to her husband. "And I said, 'How come?' And he said, 'Well, he just won $2.98 million.' And I said, 'Yeah, right,"' she recalled.

Booked into a suite

The casino booked the couple into a suite while officials verified the jackpot, which took until about 6:30 a.m., Orville Erickson said. "We got about a half-hour of sleep," he said. The casino presented the Ericksons with a check for $141,950 - the first of 21 installments over 20 years, unless they choose to take the one-time payment. On Monday, they were still considering that option.

Saturday's jackpot was the sixth MegaJackpot awarded at Dakota Magic Casino and the largest paid. The casino paid a $1,045,584 Wheel of Fortune MegaJackpot on a $1 machine in October 2004, a statement from gambling machine and system supplier IGT said.

The Ericksons, both natives of nearby Milnor, have lived for more than 40 years just north of Forman, a Sargent County city about 90 miles southwest of Fargo. "I got a lot of good plans for that," he said.

Pai Gow Poker (pronounced "Pie-Gow") is an interesting form of poker combining skill and luck, in which the player must manage two hands of cards instead of only one, and bets on whether those hands are better than those of the dealer.

Like in other forms of poker, players begin a game of Pai Gow Poker by placing a bet. The dealer then deals each player seven cards, which must be arranged into one hand of five and one hand of two. The dealer, likewise, receives seven cards and will arrange these cards into one hand of five and one hand of two.

The five-card hand is called a "High Hand" and the two-card hand is called a "Low Hand." Your High Hand must have a higher value than your Low Hand in order to qualify.

The idea of Pai Gow Poker, as mentioned above, is for both of your hands to be better than both of the dealer's hands. When arranging your cards, it's important to note than online casinos usually offer the chance for your cards to be arranged automatically. Now, first of all, we have to say that we're generally not big fans of 'betting systems'. More often than not (just about all of the time, in fact) they're scams or marked by flawed logic. However, many people continue to swear by one system or another and for some, they seem to 'work'.

This particular Baccarat strategy, the "1-3-2-6" system, 'works' with this game since it features even-money payouts. But, you can also try it out with any game or casino that pays out even money odds. Keep in mind, however, as we have already said, if there was a sure fire to way to beat the casino every time, casinos wouldn't be in business!

For the "1-3-2-6" system to work, you need to keep track of your bets over the course of four rounds of Baccarat game play. To begin, bet one unit (a unit can be $1, $10, $50, whatever) and if you win that round, then in the next round add another unit to your winnings and bet that amount (a total of 3 units). Now, if you win this round you will have a total of 6 units. According to the system, in the 3rd round you should take away four units and only bet two.

If you are lucky to win again on your fourth wager, add two more units to your winnings for a total bet of 6 units. When you win the fourth bet you will see a profit of at least 12 units. Hence, the "1-3-2-6" moniker. Of course, you are not always going to win. So, if you lose your first Baccarat bet, it's only 1 unit lost and if you win the first but lose the second, you've only dropped 2 units. But, if you win the second and lose the third, you're still up two units. And if you win the first three and unfortunately lose the last, no need to worry because you haven't really lost anything but have actually just broken even.

So, there's one Baccarat strategy in a nutshell. Like we said, some people swear by these things. But you need to remember that it's still a game of chance - no 'system' is ever foolproof.
